Time and Self-Mangement

The Essence of Time

Time is of great essence as it is a determining factor for our achievements. Many people fail to make any significant progress with their projects due to a lack of organisation. Time wasted can never be recovered. Good and effective time management skills are essential if you are seeking to reach goals.
Better time management means better self-management. This leads to accomplishment of set goals.

Making good use of your time

So how can you take control of your time management and make “better” use of our time?

Time to rethink your Time Management

Here are some ideas:

We all know about To Do Lists but it is only really worth making one if you are going to be consequent and use it properly.
Set yourself 10 minutes in the morning to write your to-do list for the day. Avoid setting yourself up for failure by keeping the list short; making it too long and then getting frustrated because you fail to accomplish everything is demoralising.

Look forward to ticking off all the things you HAVE accomplished which will motivate you even more.
Alternately write your TO DO list for the next day the previous evening – I have found that I then wake up with a “ready to go” attitude, as I already know what I want to achieve.

Schedule your day.An Agenda- essential for effective time management

Make a habit of scheduling your day and adhere to it strictly. This is one of the most effective tactics of working smart to accomplish great achievements. Consider taking the list everywhere you go, it acts as a constant reminder of what needs to be done.

The good thing about making a list of things that need to be done is that it guides your actions throughout your day and indeed your life. When you make it a routine, your mind and body adapt to the schedule automatically making you more productive.

When making your schedule make sure to assign enough TIME to each item. Just making a list and not taking into consideration the amount of time each task will take to complete, including travelling and preparation time will only lead to stress and disappointment.

Eliminate distractions

Blocking distractions is an aspect of effective time management

A lot of time is wasted on insignificant things on a daily basis. It is, therefore, important to consider blocking out all distractions such as unnecessary phone and social media usage unless it is urgent.
When you discard bad habits you become more productive because they can be very draining.
To accomplish your set goals self-discipline is mandatory to the extent of blocking everything that distracts you.

Chunk down tasks

Chunk down tasks for better time management

When you are faced with big projects it is very easy to become demoralised, or feel overwhelmed. To avoid being distracted by larger goals you should consider dividing them into bite-sized tasks.

The significance of chunking down tasks is that they become more achievable and manageable. It also helps you become more motivated in realising your goals diligently.

Respect deadlines -your own and others.

Consider increasing your productivity and motivation by being action oriented. Adopting good work ethics is substantial in meeting deadlines. When you are able to deliver within a certain time frame you become more dependable and reliable.

As a result, others will start trusting in your abilities but it all starts with you respecting deadlines. Nothing is impossible when you have the will to make things happen within the specified time frame.

Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise! Time management also means knowing HOW to prioritise

This can no be stressed enough. Consider prioritising your tasks as part of your work plan and you will experience tremendous change. Consider working on the most urgent ones before embarking on the rest. This will boost your motivation and morale.

I always find it interesting when people say, “I don’t have any time” or “I don’t have the time for that”. If we think about it, we all have 24 hours a day; the question is how do we use that “time”? It is really all a question of priorities I would say.

List your accomplishments

For inspiration and motivation purposes, contemplate listing all your accomplishments. It will help you conduct self –assessments to identify both achievements and areas of weakness.Good time management will help you reach your goals

To round it off, the more organised you become, the easier it becomes to manage your time leading to more satisfaction, greater achievements, less stress and success in life.
